Subscription Update Obituary

     Dorothy M. (Smith) Cobb, 77, of Rutland, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, December 10, 2014, after an illness. Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Dorothy was the daughter of Walter P. and Helen (Kulas) Smith, and lived 49 years in Rutland.

Her husband of 58 years, Raymond D. Cobb, died in 2013. She leaves a son, Richard D. Cobb and wife, Donna of Holden; two daughters, Victoria Mailhot and her husband, David of Coventry, CT, and Diane McNutt and her husband, Arthur of Rutland; a brother, William Smith of Merritt Island, FL; a sister, Cathy Kissel and her husband, Michael of Atlanta, GA; a sister-in-law, Ruth Grindrod and her husband, Bernard of Australia; 10 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.

Dorothy worked as a home health aide for eight years. Previously, she was an administrative secretary at Quinsigamond Community College and worked over 10 years at Sims Cab Co. in Rutland.

Faith filled, Dorothy was an active member of St. Patrick’s Church in Rutland where she served as a Eucharistic Minister, a Lector and sang in the choir. She was a member of the Third Order Benedictine in the Petersham Community. She had a passion for acting, musicals, cooking and baking. Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend, and will be known for her tenacity of spirit. She was selfless by nature and will be forever remembered in our hearts.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 13, at St. Patrick’s Church, 258 Main St., Rutland. Following Mass, Dorothy will be laid to rest beside her husband in the Heritage Mausoleum at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Heart/Stroke Association, P.O. Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden.
