Subscription Update Obituary

     Williamina “Bunny” (Birss) Smith, 93, of Worcester passed away peacefully Monday June 3rd 2013 with the family she so loved by her side. Williamina was born in Tarland, Aberdeen, Scotland on November 18, 1919. She grew up and was educated in Scotland, raised by her grandparents. As a young woman at the breakout of World War II, she joined the British Army and served in Manchester, England as a Payroll clerk attaining the rank of Sergeant. While serving her country in England, she met a young U.S. Air Force soldier, Robert H. Smith. They fell in love, married, and moved to the United States in 1946, settling in Worcester together to raise their family until Robert passed away after 45 years of marriage on September 27th of 1990. She continued to live in Worcester until the time of her passing.

     Bunny worked as a sales clerk for the Big D, Price Chopper Supermarket Company many years before accepting a position with the A.J. Wright Company before retiring.

     She is survived by her five children, David H. Smith and his wife Roseann of Worcester, Dennis W. Smith and his wife Joann of Hampstead, North Carolina, Gary E. Smith and his wife Leigh of Belmont NH, Patrice R. Anderson of Worcester, and Cynthia R. Lopardo of Mystic, CT; eleven grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Besides her husband Robert,she was pre deceased by her daughter Pamela M. Swenson. Williamina’s whole life was her family. Her grandchildren made her smile and she cherished the moments she could spend with them.

     Funeral services and burial in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton will be held privately. There are no calling hours. Memorial remembrances in her name can be made to the Rose Monahan hospice residence, care of The Visiting Nurse Association, 120 Thomas Street 01608. The MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St is honored to assist the family with arrangements.
