Subscription Update Obituary

     Robert Irving Sherblom, 82, of S.W. 73rd Circle, formerly of Worcester and Princeton, died November 3, 2012 at Legacy Home in Ocala, FL after being stricken ill at home. He was born and raised in Worcester, the son of Arthur and Edna (Lane) Sherblom and was a graduate of Doherty Memorial High School.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Barbara Jean Sherblom who resided in Sterling and his siblings, George Sherblom, Alice Dupras and Arthur Sherblom, Jr. all of Worcester and Julia Wilkinson of Wayland, NY.
Robert is survived by and will be lovingly missed by his wife, Maria Pauline (Yankus) Sherblom. They would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on November 10. In addition, he leaves behind his children who adored him; Carol Sherblom of Hubbardston, Robert P. Sherblom and his wife Lynn of Palm Coast, FL and Christine Beer and her husband Allen of Leicester; and a stepson, Ken Banis of Holbrook. Besides his immediate family, he will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Kim Richardson of Hubbardston, Rachele Pojednic and her husband John of Cambridgeport, Leia Sherblom of Australia, Mae Sherblom of Raeford, NC, Joshua Beer and Tiffany Beer both of Leicester.
He was an IC ETM for the U.S. Navy serving aboard the USS Kerstin in the South Pacific during Korean War. He also served as Master of Arms and was wounded in the service while on duty. Professionally, Robert was a compositor for the Worcester Telegram and Gazette for 25 years and owned and operated his own printing and related business until he moved to Ocala. Upon his retirement he became captain of security of Ocala Regional Medical Center and Marian Community Hospital. He retired from this position in 2008.
Socially, Robert was a past member and president of the Summit Improvement Society in Worcester and a 49 year member of the Harold N. Keith American Legion Post 204 in West Boylston. He was a Master Mason for 34 years and was a member of the Boylston Lodge A.F. & A.M. in West Boylston and the Valley of Springfield Scottish Rite Bodies. He was a dedicated Red Sox fan and even tried out for the team as a younger man. He also enjoyed football, nature walks, the ocean, but mostly, he especially loved gathering with his family. Affectionately known by all, Robert was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be remembered for his charming humor and his unconditional love of his family.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. A memorial service for Robert will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8, in the funeral home followed by a committal service at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Legacy House, 9505 South West 110th Street, Ocala, FL 34481.
