Mildred E. (Wennerstrand) Carlson formerly of Worcester and Auburn died peacefully on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a lengthy illness.
     Millie leaves two sons, Robert Carlson of Las Vegas, Nevada and Ronald Carlson and his wife Andrea of Sturbridge. She also leaves one grandson, Matthew Carlson, his wife Molly and two great grandsons, Liam and Phineas of North Brookfield. She also leaves a sister, Lois Dahlin of Holden and many cherished nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 58 years, Raymond D. Carlson; brothers, George and Paul Wennerstrand and sisters, Evelyn Anderson and June Eklund.
     Millie was born in Worcester in 1923 to Anton and Alma (Granlund) Wennerstrand. She lived most of his life in Worcester before moving to Auburn in 1987. In 2006 she moved to the Lodge at Eddy Pond where she received wonderful care and made many friendships. Millie was a graduate of the former Commerce High School in Worcester. Trained as a bookkeeper, she worked in that field for many years before she had children. Millie was a cashier at the former Anderson and Sundquist market in Quinsigamond Village. She also worked as a Special Education Bus Monitor for the City of Worcester in the early 1980’s.
     She was a life long member of the Bethlehem Covenant Church where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the Women’s Guild. Millie was an extraordinary homemaker. She kept a sparkling clean home that often smelled like freshly baked Swedish treats. She loved entertaining her family, baking, babies and dogs. At Christmas, she spent weeks baking cookies to be shared with family and friends. Her famous “Millie Buns” are already sorely missed. Millie was very proud of her Swedish heritage and passed on many of the traditions to younger family members. Millie enjoyed traveling with her husband to various parts of the country. She spent many happy summers in Kennebunk, Maine and warm winters in Siesta Key Beach in Sarasota, Florida. She was very proud of her two sons and grandson and their families and was happiest surrounded by them all.
     The family would like to thank the staff of the memory care unit at The Lodge at Eddy Pond for their care of Millie and all of their kindness. They also extend appreciation to the staff at the Holy Trinity Nursing Home and Hospice for their compassion and understanding to the very end. There are no words to convey the gratitude felt towards these selfless individuals.
     A visiting hour for Millie will be held Saturday, March 9th from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m followed by a funeral service at 1:30 p.m at LINDQUIST LUNDIN FUNERAL HOME, 36 Butler St., Worcester. Burial will be private at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
