Subscription Update Obituary

     Herbert F. Anderson, 84, of Worcester, died with dignity on Friday, February 17, 2012 in the comfort of his own home, surrounded by loved ones.

     He leaves his beloved wife of 61 years, Julia A, (Budreau) Anderson; six children, David and his wife Pauline of Wheelwright, Alan and his wife Lisa of Southbridge, Judith Alexander of Worcester, Nancy Gardell of West Boylston, Brian and his wife Christine of Auburn, and Andrew of Worcester; fourteen grandchildren and two great grandkids. He also leaves a sister, Eileen, wife of Nils Granfors.

     He was predeceased by his son Mark and brothers Gerald, Robert, Paul, and Ernest.

     Born in Worcester, Herbert was the son of Edwin G. and Rita M. (Wynne) Anderson.

     He was an Airman in the U.S. Air Force Strategic Air Command during the Korean War. He worked at Worcester Pressed Steel, U.S. Steel, and Norton Company.

     He was a member of SAC Park, the Paxton Lions Club and the Vernon Hill American Legion Post. He was a longtime member of Ascension Parish and served on the altar for many years. In recent years, he was a member of St. John’s Church.

     Dad loved his family first and foremost, and enjoyed vacations with them. He also liked fishing trips, cookouts, and golf. He loved the New England sports teams, especially the Red Sox. Herb was a manager in the Lou Gehrig Little League for 21 years.

     He loved his family much, and he will be deeply and forever missed.

     Calling hours are Monday, February 20 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester. The funeral will be Tuesday, February 21, from the funeral home with a Mass at 11:30 a.m. in Saint John’s Church, 40 Temple Street, Worcester. Burial will be private.

     In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital , Box 1818, Memphis, TN 38101-1818.
