Henry J. Kimbar, 81, of Worcester, passed into the loving arms of our Lord on Tuesday, October 29, 2013, at home, after an extended illness.
He leaves his daughter, Christine M. Hasanowicz and her husband James of Worcester, two sons, John A. Kimbar and his wife Mary E. (Donovan) of Townsend, and James A. Kimbar of Worcester, a daughter-in-law, Jennifer Kimbar-Leduc of Auburn, thirteen grandchildren, six great grandchildren, two sisters, Sister Audrey Kimbar CSFN of Philadelphia, PA and Mary Conway and her husband Edward of Weymouth, two sisters-in-law, Dolores Kimbar and Mary Morse, and two brothers-in-law, Raymond Kudron and Ronald Taylor and his wife Nancy and several nieces and nephews.
He is pre-deceased by his wife of 58 years, Nettie L. (Taylor) Kimbar, two sons, Henry and Edward, seven brothers, Edward, John, Chester, Joseph, Stanley, Charles, and Thomas Kimbar, four sisters, Bertha, Sophie, Jane Kimbar and Christine Kudron.
He was born in Worcester, son of Alexander and Josephine (Sokolowski) Kimbar. He served as a medic during the Korean War, and upon return home, worked as a linotype operator at Heffernan Press, and Saltus Press, and in later years at Raytheon, at various campuses. Along with his wife, he was a longtime volunteer at the Quinsigamond Village Community Center, where they ran the food pantry for greater than 30 years, and he still assisted most recently just prior to his illness and demise. Mr. Kimbar was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School, and the post grad program at the former boy’s trade, where he learned his trade.
Henry loved spending time with his friends and family-especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and volunteering at QVCC with his wife.
Henry was a communicant at Our Lady of Czestochowa Church his entire life. His funeral will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2013 from HENRY-DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward St. Worcester, with a Mass at 10:00 A.M in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward Street.
Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday, November 1, 2013 from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to “Quinsigamond Village Community Center Food Pantry”, 16 Greenwood St., Worcester, MA 01607.
