Subscription Update Obituary

     George H. Friberg, 99, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 7, 2013 at Homestead Hall Rest Home in Worcester. He was born in Stockholm, Sweden, the son of John and Hilda (Olson) Friberg.
     His beloved wife of 67 years, Charlotte M. (Bengtson) Friberg, passed away in 2010. He leaves two daughters, Carron Mentzer and her husband Stephen of Holden and Susanne Morrison and her husband Vincent of Newport News, VA; a sister, Martha Ahlstrom of Holden; a brother-in-law, Harold W. Bengtson, Jr. and his wife Kathleen R. of Holden; two grandchildren, Scott S. Mentzer and his wife Jill of Holden and Michelle C. Baleno and her husband Robert of Holden; a great granddaughter, Holly Forsman of Holden; and many nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by four sisters, Jean, Ellen, Ruth and Hildur and three brothers, Ivan, Verner and Sigvard and a son-in-law, Lonnie Berry.
     Mr. Friberg graduated from Middletown High School in Connecticut and served his country during World War II as a staff sergeant with the 2114th Army Air Force base unit and served in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater where he earned two bronze stars. George was a machinist and foreman for twenty-five years at U.S. Envelope in Worcester and later was a custodian for the First Congregational Church in Shrewsbury. He was a member of the Belmont Street Baptist Church in Worcester and the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed painting on wood and loved to spend time with his family. He will be dearly missed.
     The family would like to extend their appreciation for the loving care and compassion provided by the staff at Summit Eldercare and the Homestead Hall Rest Home.
     Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 14, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. The funeral for Mr. Friberg will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 15, in the funeral home followed by interment at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Homestead Hall Rest Home, Activities Fund, 10 Homestead Ave., Worcester, MA 01610, or Summit Eldercare, Activities Fund, 277 East Mountain Street, Worcester, MA 01606.
