Carol Mae (Harper) Bercume, 90, of 312 Rawson St., passed away peacefully on August 2 in Saint Vincent Hospital, Worcester, surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of Almon and Bessie (Andersen) Harper and the wife of Melvin Bercume who died in 1971. She is survived by two brothers, Almon Harper of PA., and Charles Harper of NC (formerly of Northboro, MA.) She leaves four children; Christine Bercume Vancelette, Susan Pickett and her husband Dan, Melinda Bercume with whom she lived and Jeffrey Bercume, Sr. and his wife Karen, all of Leicester. She also leaves six grandchildren; Diane Pickett, Beth Cleveland, Amanda Pickett, Ellen Vancelette, Jeffrey Bercume, Jr. and Laura Bercume. Four great-grandchildren; David C. Foy, Danielle Foy, James Pickett and Cory Cleveland.
Carol was pre-deceased by a brother Herbert Harper and a son-in-law Earle Vancelette.
Carol was a long time member of Christ Episcopal Church in Rochdale where she served as Church School Coordinator for many years, served on the Vestry and was a life long member of ECW. She was a 25 year volunteer with the Girl Scouts of America.
In her early years she worked at the Paul Revere Insurance Company where she made many lifelong friends. She then stayed home to raise her four children. Several years after being widowed, she began working at Masterman’s in Auburn where she retired at age 70 as a Customer Service Supervisor.
In her later years Carol enjoyed time in Maine with friends and family and the Boston Red Sox, but most of all she enjoyed the simple pleasure of being with family. Her positive attitude in the face of adversity was an inspiration to all she met and she will be dearly missed.
A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, August 7 at 11 A.M. in Christ Episcopal Church, 1089 Stafford St., Rochdale. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are Tuesday, August 6 from 5-7 PM in the MORIN-MORRISON FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main St. Leicester.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the Epilepsy Foundation, 8301 Professional Place, Landover, MD, 20785, or Christ Episcopal Church, 1089 Stafford St., P.O. Box 142, Rochdale, MA 01542.
