Subscription Update Obituary

     Carl Pershing Werme, 94, of Briarwood, formerly of Holden, passed away July 16, 2013 at the Knollwood Nursing Center. He leaves his wife of 65 years, Esther M. (Anderson) Werme; a son and daughter-in-law, C. Douglas and Lorna Werme of NY; five grandchildren, Jennifer Copp (David) of NY, Gregory Perednia (Elisa) of HI, Christine Werme of NY, Richard Perednia (Molly) of NH, and Daniel Perednia of MA as well as many nephews, nieces, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his brother and sister, Alvin Werme and Helen Phillips and his two daughters, Joyce M. Werme and Lori J. Werme.
     Born in Millbury, he was a son of Mabel E. (Pierce) and Carl E. Werme. He graduated from South High School (1937) and the University of Massachusetts (1942). Carl then served in the Army Air Force during WWII (1942-45). He advanced his education further at Boston University (1949-50). Carl worked for the Parker Manufacturing Company in Worcester for 39 years where he had been Director of Purchasing for 36 years. Carl was active in the Boy Scouts of America for 17 years. He was a Life Member of the Greendale Retired Men’s Club and its Glee Club and Chorus. He was an active member of Bethlehem Covenant Church for many years. He sang in its choir and men’s chorus and held many positions of service in the church. His hobbies included camping, gardening, home building, and vacationing in Maine and on Cape Cod.
The Werme family extends their appreciation for the compassionate care Carl received at the Knollwood Nursing Center.
     Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 23, 2013. A private graveside service under the direction of Nordgren Memorial Chapel will be held for the family. All are welcome to the memorial service at 11:30 am at Bethlehem Covenant Church, 46 Greenwood Street, Worcester MA 01607. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the “Memorial Fund” of the church.
